Brand-New Study: No Significant Outcome Differences Between Circumcision Methods
Brand-New Study: No Significant Outcome Differences Between Circumcision Methods
A new peer-reviewed study just released online ahead of print in The American Surgeon (June 2025) compared three of the most widely used neonatal circumcision techniques: the Mogen clamp, Gomco clamp, and Plastibell device.
The researchers found no statistically significant differences in complication rates or ER visits among the three methods. All were well tolerated, and all produced comparable outcomes. While there were differences in reported pain levels, these did not translate into differences in safety or the need for revision.
This study reinforces what we’ve said for years at Atlanta Baby Circumcision: while we favor the Mogen clamp for specific advantages, a skilled practitioner can deliver excellent results with any technique.
What matters most is not the method, but the experience and track record of the person performing the procedure. Before moving forward, make sure your son’s practitioner has done this procedure thousands of times and has a long-standing reputation for excellence. Your baby deserves nothing less.
